Crafting a Future is a book about artisans and a celebration of their vocational skills. It is a collection of inspirational stories that demonstrates the diversity, with each region in India offering its own unique skills, distinctive range of textiles, motifs, colour palettes, fibres and natural dyes. It showcases the vast variety of handcrafted textile processes and suggests ways to repurpose their distinctive artisanal talents to rejuvenate the handcrafted textile sector.
The book responds to the two glaring challenges faced today, growing unemployment and climate change. Beyond beauty and heritage value, handcrafted production has the potential of creating the much needed millions of dignified livelihoods within their geographical location using existing hand-skills. It is an eco-friendly means of production with a light carbon footprint and fulfils most of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals.
